Our journey

From Long Pond to all of Trelawny

Trelawny Co-operative Credit Union was registered on 11 January 1968. We began life at the Long Pond Sugar Estates as the Trelawny Estates Co-operative Credit Union, when only estate workers could join.

In 1975, members voted to extend our bond and register as a parish-wide credit union. Today, anyone who lives, works or has ties to Trelawny — and their family — can become a member-owner.

Through every season, our mission has stayed simple: to improve the economic and social well-being of our members by providing affordable, accessible, member-focused financial services. We believe in people helping people.

Transparency you can trust

We are committed to financial integrity. Members have full access to our audited annual financial statements, and our Board of Directors is elected by the membership to ensure sound, responsible governance.

What guides us

The seven co-operative principles

The same principles that unite credit unions worldwide shape how we serve Trelawny.

1. Voluntary & open membership

2. Democratic member control

One member, one vote — you help steer the credit union.

3. Member economic participation

Members contribute to and democratically control our capital.

4. Autonomy & independence

A self-help organisation controlled by its members.

5. Education & training

We build financial knowledge across the parish.

6. Co-operation among co-operatives

We work with the wider Jamaican credit union movement.

7. Concern for community

Sustainable development of Trelawny is at our core.
